Penn United Technologies currently employs over 650 people in our employee‑owned precision manufacturing company, located about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh in Butler County.
- Learn to operate and understand manual and CNC grinding equipment
- Learn to grind carbide components according to exact blueprint specifications
- Read prints & job orders to determine dimensions and machine set‑up
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
- Ensure proper grade segregation is practiced at all work stations
- Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Report to work on time and ready to learn and accomplish tasks
- Attend on‑site apprenticeship classes in addition to on‑the‑job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor. This is an in‑house certificate program leading to Journey worker title upon completion of the 4‑year training program.
- High level of technical, mechanical and math aptitude
- The ability & desire to do precision work
- Knowledge of blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers is preferred, not necessary
- Expectation to work the majority of the time on a daylight shift, but must be available to work any shift needed; lift up to 50 lbs., and stand 8‑10 hours per day.
- Regular attendance and solid performance in apprenticeship classes
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience with grinding machines is preferred, not necessary
- Competitive starting wage with the opportunity for pay increases every 6 months during our 4‑year in‑house certificate program
