Job Summary
Machinist III (ADV
000BF
M) – a CBA position with Amentum. Assist NASA’s deep‑space exploration projects by designing, machining, and assembling precision components. Work in a fast‑paced team environment to produce high‑quality parts that meet strict tolerances and specifications.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 12 years of machinist experience.
- Proficiency with CNC programming languages and standard machining practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions; excellent problem‑solving and math skills.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Operating Mazak lathes with Mazatrol programming (or similar).
- CNC machining center experience (HAAS, Hurco, Mazak, Servo).
- 5‑axis mastercam programming; proficiency with G‑code and CAD/CAM tools such as CREO, ProE, Gibbs
CAM. - Experience with .stp files, 4th‑axis machining, overhead crane operation, and handling NASA flight hardware.
- Plan, layout, machine, and assemble parts to precision tolerances.
- Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, hones, and other specialty tools.
- Determine machining sequences, cutting tool selection, and hold/align methods.
- Develop CNC/lathe programs; edit programs and perform first‑piece inspections.
- Maintain machine tooling, grind own tool bits and drills, and ensure clean, organized workspace.
- Train and mentor less experienced machinists.
- Provide technical direction to customers on reviews, modifications, and repairs.
- Execute related tasks as required by production needs.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional: climb ladders and maintain balance on scaffolds; lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Frequent: reach, handle, and manipulate objects; stand and work in a cold‑controlled manufacturing facility.
- Constant: coordinate hands and tools; use vision (corrected or uncorrected).
- Required:
adhere to procedures and standards; apply basic math; evaluate drawings; recognize safety hazards. - Wear steel‑toed shoes and participate in hearing‑loss prevention program.
Large, climate‑controlled manufacturing facility with a variety of machining equipment, power tools, and noise levels. Operate and maintain CNC/manual machining centers, grinders, drills, lathes, water jets, lifts, hoists, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, and shop tools.
