Railroad Conductor​/Laborer

Overview

Birdsboro Quarry, a division of the H&K Group, Inc., is seeking a Railroad Conductor/Laborer to coordinate the operation of railroad locomotives, cars, and switching procedures in a safe and responsible manner, and support general labor activities in the yard to achieve daily production goals. The ideal candidate is motivated, energetic, interested and engaged in learning new skills, and carries out work safely.

• Performs all work according to MSHA, FRA, BMHK RR, and H&K Safety policies
• Moves levers and depresses pedals to control operation, function and movement of machinery
• Feels and listens to operate equipment most efficiently
• Cleans equipment as needed
• Ensures equipment is safely and securely parked and stored
• Maintains equipment by greasing properly and checking fluids daily (oils, coolant, fuel level)
• Performs daily checks on equipment to ensure proper operating condition
• Must perform daily work place safety exam if Brakeman/utility is not available
• Notifies General Foreman of Railroad Operations of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
• Other duties as assigned

• Prior railroad experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Training available based on balance of technical skills/experience, focus on safety, learning agility, and time management
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Problem solving and prioritization skills
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
• Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

• High school diploma or equivalent (such as the GED) from an accredited educational institution
• Machinery knowledge
• Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Strong preference for Loader operation experience
• Experience working in a quarry, rail yard, heavy civil construction, or other outdoor industrial setting
• MSHA, FRA, and/or BMHKK RR or other relevant safety certification or experience
