Position Overview

The Donation & Development Assistant is responsible for assisting in the coordination of programming, in-kind donations, fundraising and events as needed by the Director of Development and Volunteer & Event Coordinator.

Primary Responsibilities

Development Assistance

  • Provide support to the Director of Development and Volunteer & Event Coordinator as needed.
  • Assist with annual and secondary events as needed.
  • Assist with annual fundraising initiatives and seasonal campaigns as assigned.
  • Assist with group, scout, and youth programming as needed.
  • Support promotional and marketing efforts for organizational programs and events, including assisting with social media content and outreach.

In Kind-Donations & Pet Food Bank

  • Assist in oversight of counting, movement, and reporting of in-kind donations collected in front bins of the shelter.
  • Assist the development team with partner and WAHS-hosted Pet Food Banks, including inventory management, ordering, staffing, and day-of oversight.
  • Communicate to the volunteer coordinator if help is needed to move large volumes of food to the storage shed and the CARE Building.
  • Communicate with the kennel, vet, and cat departments to identify what types of donations they are in need of, what to keep and what can be given away or disposed of.
  • Help maintain an up-to-date in-kind donation lists on the Amazon and the WAHS website.
  • Maintain food requests, food inventory lists, staff submissions, and reporting.
  • Maintain reporting on pounds of food distributed and number of pets served (WAHS, partners, and one-time disbursements).
  • Create marketing and collateral for WAHS-hosted pet food banks.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
  • A willingness to engage with all types of people through empathy and kindness.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate positive relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Social Media and Marketing Experience required. (Canva and Social Media platforms)
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed for events and programs.
  • Comfortable working around animals and supporting animal-related programming.
  • Job contingent on background check and reference check.
  • Professional appearance and attitude a must.
  • Valid PA driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
