The Town of Winona Lake is seeking a dependable and hardworking Siteworks Laborer / Equipment Operator to join our team. This position supports the town by performing landscaping, grounds maintenance, sitework, and operating town vehicles and heavy machinery. Position Summary

The Siteworks Laborer / Equipment Operator performs hands-on outdoor maintenance and sitework tasks for the Town of Winona Lake. Responsibilities include landscaping, property upkeep, small-scale excavation, and operating a variety of town vehicles, mowers, and heavy equipment.

Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance
  • Mow, trim, edge, and maintain Town-owned properties, parks, and trails
  • Plant, mulch, prune, and care for trees, shrubs, and flower beds
  • Remove weeds, brush, debris, and litter
  • Assist with shoreline, trail, and green space upkeep
  • Support seasonal tasks: leaf removal, snow shoveling, and snow plowing
Sitework & General Maintenance
  • Assist with grading, excavation, and drainage projects
  • Repair and maintain fences, signs, walkways, and public facilities
  • Help with material hauling, raking, compacting, and ground prep
  • Keep worksites clean, organized, and safe
Vehicle & Equipment Operation

Safely operate:

  • Pickup trucks and utility vehicles
  • Commercial mowers and landscaping equipment
  • Skid-steers, tractors, mini-excavators, or similar machinery
  • Perform routine checks, fueling, and basic equipment upkeep
  • Follow all town safety rules and procedures
Additional Duties
  • Assist with town events and community projects
  • Respond to work orders and maintenance needs
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Cooperate with other team members and supervisors
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience in landscaping, sitework, or groundskeeping preferred
  • Experience operating heavy machinery (or willingness to be trained)
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and perform physical outdoor work
  • Dependable, team-oriented, and safety-conscious
Work Schedule & Compensation

Full-time, typically Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work

Competitive hourly pay based on experience
