We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations.

Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether, PSI employs 2300 people.
For the Time-Resolved Crystallography Group in the PSI Center for Life Sciences we are looking for a

PhD Student in time-resolved serial crystallography of enzymatic reactions

  • Prepare and run temperature-controlled experiments (e.g., T-jump) to probe transient intermediate states
  • Analyze and interpret high-resolution crystallographic datasets to extract mechanistic insight into enzymatic processes
  • Apply - and where needed, help advance - biophysical methods supporting protein structure/function analysis
  • Optimize experimental sample preparation, including protein expression and purification
Your profile
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biophysics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with biophysical techniques (e.g., CD, fluorescence spectroscopy, ITC) and protein purification (e.g., FPLC)
  • Strong analytical skills, initiative, and the ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary team
  • Prior experience in crystallography (macromolecular crystallography, serial crystallography, crystallographic data processing/refinement) is highly valued
