Public Safety Officer

Eastern University, a Christian university of the liberal arts and sciences located in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, invites applications for the full-time Public Safety Officer vacancy. A Public Safety Officer patrols the campus to discourage criminal behavior, provides shuttle transportation, secures buildings, and interacts with all members of the Community to promote a sense of well‑being and security, and enhance the quality of life on the Eastern University campus.

The position is a full‑time status, 12 months per year.

• Protect life and property, and interdiction of criminal activity through high‑visibility vehicular and foot patrol on the campus and maintain a log of all patrol activities.
• Use radio/telephone to answer all calls.
• Provide shuttle transportation to rail stations and other assigned areas and maintain a log of passengers.
• Regulate campus vehicular and pedestrian traffic to enhance safety and expedite flow; enforce university parking regulations.
• Respond to emergency situations, including alarms, medical emergencies, and crimes in progress; summon municipal police, fire, and EMS assistance when required.
• Identify, report, and resolve conditions that are hazardous to people and property; inspect buildings and properties for proper maintenance and working order.
• Interact with the community and visitors, acting as a goodwill ambassador and rendering assistance where needed.
• Administer first aid and CPR when necessary.
• Investigate crimes, accidents, and other noteworthy incidents; summon the assistance of municipal services when indicated; prepare and submit concise and comprehensive reports in accordance with procedures.
• Secure and unlock campus buildings in accordance with schedules and procedures.
• Provide Safe Walk escorts for members of the community and visitors.
• Embodies values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.
• Seek to treat each member of the campus community with fairness, dignity, and respect, fostering a spirit of unity and harmony.
• Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and report any crimes or incidents that may be reported to them.
• Other duties as assigned.

Status:
Staff, non‑exempt, hourly, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.

• High school diploma or GED and a good work history.
• Valid driver’s license; clean driving record and at least one year of driving experience.
• Ability to drive safely at night and in poor weather.
• Proven computer literacy (Microsoft Office Word, Excel); excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capable of passing a background investigation including criminal records check and a physical and/or psychological examination.
• Ability to follow instructions and get along with others.
• Physical demands: heavy lifting up to 50 pounds; ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods and bend, stoop, squat, reach, kneel, lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus.
• Ability to talk, hear, and walk without assistance.
• Ability to report to work for assigned shift and perform required duties for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
