General Services - Maintenance

Overview

Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance functions in an institutional environment. These tasks may include preventative and repair services, requiring carpentry, automotive, masonry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, and mechanical knowledge. These tasks will be performed in a correctional institution and may require the ability to work independently and without direct supervision.

• Maintain security and safety protocols in all activities; comply with all rules and regulations within the correctional facility.
• Work in close proximity to inmates as required.
• Diagnose maintenance issues and determine appropriate courses of action or alternatives as applicable.
• Work well under pressure, adapt to changing conditions, and demonstrate initiative.
• Maintain awareness of cost control and proper utilization of resources.
• Prioritize tasks effectively and make sound decisions.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in a trade or skilled labor position is beneficial.
• Experience and knowledge of corrections and institutional operations is preferred.
• Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment (snow plows, dump truck, tractor).
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• A criminal history check will be completed.

While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, sit, talk and hear; the employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or use tools or controls, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Heavy lifting and strenuous labor are common. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and depth perception.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
