OverviewThe High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach assists the head coach in organizing and supervising the cheer program and contributes to the development of student athletes through instruction, guidance, and supervision.

- Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
- Assist the head coach with applying the technical aspects of the sport and continually examining new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
- Serve as a positive role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

SupervisesIn many cases, the head coach advises, coordinates and supports a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
Job GoalTo instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for individual and team success, and to model socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment. To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
General- The success of athletic programs influences the community’s image; public exposure is a responsibility, but objectives of good sportsmanship and mental health must be prioritized.
- The position includes unusual aspects such as extended time, risk of injury, and due process considerations.
- Coaches should exercise common sense and good judgment in cases not specifically covered.
- Thorough knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Board of Education and responsibility for their implementation.
- Knowledge of applicable systems, state and league regulations; interprets and applies them for staff.
- Understand proper administrative chain of command and refer requests or grievances through proper channels.
- Establish fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff. Design conferences, clinics and staff meetings to ensure program awareness.
- Train and inform staff; encourage professional growth through clinic attendance.
- Delegate duties, supervise implementation and evaluate staff effectiveness at season’s end.
- Maintain discipline, resolve grievances and promote morale and cooperation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.
- Assist the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and events.
- Prepare for scheduled practices and events, ensuring facility times are respected and coordinated with maintenance and school staff.
- Provide documentation for state and system requirements on physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Provide safeguards for equipment and sites; advise the athletic director on policy and procedural changes.
- Serve as a mentor to promote character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Monitor athletes’ grades and conduct; provide guidance and safeguards during practices and travel.
- Provide training rules and sport regulations to participants; initiate programs for injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
- Complete paperwork on injuries promptly and coordinate with the athletic office; direct student managers and assistants.
- Determine discipline, outline due process when needed, and coordinate with parents regarding ineligibility.
- Aid athletes in college or further education planning.
- Participate in budgeting with the athletic director by establishing season requirements and equipment guidelines.
- Operate within budget; be accountable for equipment and collect costs for lost or unreturned items.
- Issue, store and recondition equipment; maintain inventory records.
- Mark and identify equipment; monitor equipment rooms and access controls; ensure only authorized people enter.
- Ensure gym and facilities are secure and equipment is properly cared for.
- Organize preseason meetings for parents, coaches, players and guests; promote the sport within the school and community.
- Maintain good public relations with media, booster clubs, parents, officials and volunteers; issue accurate information to local media.
