We are currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic I. This is a dedicated on‑site shop position. The technician will perform DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties as assigned, including aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, lifts, brake chambers, liftgates, and auxiliary systems. Under supervision, the mechanic may perform more advanced repairs and assist higher‑level technicians.
Success involves compliance with all company policies and achievement of high performance metrics.
- Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Determine parts required for each job and interact with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist in daily cleanup.
- Apply knowledge from training and on‑the‑job experience to perform the job.
- Work with the Service Writer to assess customer needs and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and keep commitments, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and light/medium/heavy‑duty vehicle repairs in a shop environment.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders using company devices and upload photos.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintain high productivity within or close to standard repair times.
- Communicate with the Shop Manager and support team for repair estimates and purchase order retrieval.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Complete all required company safety training.
- Maintain assigned service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform pre/post trip inspections.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems, including chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, liftgates, brake chambers, and steering systems.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
- High School Diploma/GED and up to 2 years of experience in a related field.
- Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Complete all required company training.
- Complete DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Maintain a current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining, or submit a DOT physical if less than four months.
- Valid driver's license required.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE 608/609 certification*
- Knowledge of trailer parts and systems for repair and maintenance.
- Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderate heavy labor.
- Perform repetitive tasks without tiring.
- Accurately judge distances and object proximity.
- Communicate information succinctly and effectively in two‑way communication.
- Determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
