POSITION SUMMARY
The Receiving Clerk at Biolyst Scientific is responsible for the efficient and accurate receiving, inspection, and documentation of incoming goods, including diagnostic products, reagents, biological materials, and other life sciences-related items. This role ensures that all products are properly checked for quality and quantity, recorded in the inventory system, and stored according to industry-specific guidelines, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ISO standards.
The Receiving Clerk plays a critical role in maintaining inventory accuracy and supporting the smooth operation of the supply chain.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Receive incoming shipments of diagnostic products, reagents, raw materials, and other life sciences-related items, ensuring they meet quality and quantity specifications.
- Inspect all incoming goods for damage, discrepancies, and expiration dates. Report any issues such as damaged goods, shortages, or incorrect items to the Receiving Supervisor or management.
- Verify product specifications against purchase orders, packing lists, and shipping documents to ensure that the correct products are received.
- Record lot numbers, expiration dates, and other relevant product details for tracking purposes.
- Accurately document received goods in the inventory management system, ensuring that all details (product codes, quantities, lot numbers, and expiry dates) are correctly entered.
- Tag or label products as required to ensure traceability, including for products with specific storage conditions (e.g., temperature-sensitive items).
- Ensure all shipments are properly documented, including packing slips, invoices, and certificates of analysis or compliance where applicable.
- Support inventory control activities, including cycle counts and reconciling discrepancies in inventory records.
- Ensure that all incoming products are properly stored in designated areas, following safety guidelines and inventory management protocols.
- Handle hazardous or temperature-sensitive materials in compliance with safety regulations (e.g., biological materials, chemicals, or refrigerated items).
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe receiving area to facilitate efficient handling of incoming goods.
- Ensure the proper rotation of inventory, especially with time-sensitive or perishable items, according to FIFO (First In, First Out) or other relevant methods.
- Ensure all products are received and handled in accordance with regulatory standards such as GMP, ISO, and any specific industry or company requirements.
- Follow procedures for the safe handling, storage, and documentation of hazardous, biohazardous, or temperature-sensitive materials.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with internal audits and external inspections related to receiving and inventory management.
- Communicate with purchasing, warehouse, and quality control teams to address any discrepancies or issues with received products.
- Provide timely and accurate reports regarding receipt status, product conditions, and any issues or concerns.
- Assist in the coordination of returns or exchanges of defective or incorrect products with vendors.
- Provide feedback on inefficiencies or challenges in the receiving process to the Receiving Supervisor or management team.
- Suggest and support process improvements that will help streamline the receiving workflow, improve accuracy, and reduce the time required to process incoming shipments.
- Adhere to company safety procedures and ensure that the receiving area is free from hazards, keeping the space clean and organized.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when handling hazardous materials, chemicals, or biological substances.
