Lights of Lowther Christmas Event
Lowther Castle & Gardens
Role OverviewLowther Castle & Gardens is recruiting friendly, reliable and enthusiastic short-term contract staff to support the catering outlets for Lights of Lowther, our festive Christmas light trail through the castle ruin & gardens. These roles will help deliver a safe, welcoming and memorable evening experience for visitors of all ages.
Contract Details- Contract type: Short-term seasonal contract
- Event: Lights of Lowther evening event
- Location: Lowther Castle & Gardens, Lowther, Penrith
- Working pattern: Mostly evening shifts, including Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and additional dates in the run-up to Christmas and between Christmas and New Year
- Hours: Up to 24 hours per week
- Example of a shift:30pm – 9.30pm
- Start date: 10th November 2026
- End date: 30th December 2026
- Welcome visitors warmly and provide clear, helpful information when asked.
- To work across the various catering outlets including the café, canopy, pop up hot dog stand, summerhouse and marshmallow fire pit.
- Serve customers in a friendly manner even during busy periods.
- Some areas will be outside so a flexible approach is needed and the ability to work outside during the Winter weather.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues across visitor welcome, catering, retail, parking, security and event operations.
- Help maintain a clean, tidy and professional event environment.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties needed to support successful delivery of the event.
- Friendly, approachable and confident speaking with members of the public.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work agreed shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Calm and practical under pressure, with a positive attitude during busy periods.
- Able to follow instructions, procedures and health and safety guidance.
- Comfortable working outdoors in winter conditions and after dark (this would not be every shift.)
- A good team player who is willing to help wherever needed.
- Previous experience in visitor attractions, events, retail, hospitality, stewarding or customer service is helpful but not essential.
- Availability to work evening shifts during the event period.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
- Ability to work outdoors in Winter weather when required.
