Vocations Lead for Mission and Ministry, Support and Innovation

Diocese of Carlisle

  • Are you passionate about nurturing vocation and calling?
  • Are you experienced in enabling and equipping others to participate in the mission of God in diverse ways and places?
  • Do you have skills and experience which would enable you to develop and deliver accessible, inspiring and diverse development programmes?

The Diocese of Carlisle is looking for a lay or ordained person to inspire, encourage, and support the vocations of all people as disciples, ministers, and leaders in Cumbria. This role sits at the heart of our commitment to growing and enabling the mission of the local church as well as across our ecumenical Mission Communities.

You will be responsible for building a vocational pipeline of lay and ordained leaders, enabling the growth of local people from all ages, abilities and backgrounds by:

  • Encouraging and equipping local leaders and teams to identify and nurture people’s gifts within their communities
  • Overseeing the first stage of the formal vocations process, working with colleagues and volunteers to facilitate individual discernment
  • Continuing the development and delivery of accessible, inclusive, and diverse formational pathways across the Diocese, with both in-person and online offerings

We are seeking someone who is missionally imaginative, pastorally sensitive, and engages effectively with others across a range of traditions and contexts, and who can work independently to deliver creative and innovative programmes.

This is a full-time position of 35 hours a week.

Salary £41,878 plus 15% non-contributory pension or an ordained candidate could choose to remain in the Church of England Clergy Pension Scheme.

This post is subject to an occupational requirement that the postholder be a practising Christian under Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010.

Carlisle Diocese is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment.
