Position: Net Zero Carbon Officer (Churches and Schools)

Net Zero Carbon Officer (Churches and Schools)

Net Zero Carbon Officer (Churches and Schools)

Based at Church House, Penrith, Cumbria

The Diocese is committed to caring for creation and achieving the Church of England's Net Zero Carbon targets across its churches, schools and wider estate. Thanks to funding from the Church Commissioners, we are seeking to appoint a Net Zero Carbon Officer (Churches and Schools) to join our small, dedicated team leading this important work.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting churches, schools and diocesan stakeholders to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and develop sustainable, resilient buildings that continue to serve worship, education and community life for generations to come.

Working closely with clergy, PCCs, school leaders, governors, volunteers and professional advisers, you will help identify, develop and deliver practical decarbonisation and building improvement projects. You will provide expert guidance on sustainability, support access to funding opportunities, and help build local capacity to care for buildings and resources in ways that support both mission and environmental responsibility.

This role offers the opportunity to make a significant and lasting contribution to the Diocese's environmental ambitions, helping churches and schools respond positively to the challenges of climate change while ensuring their buildings remain safe, welcoming, well-maintained and fit for future generations.

This is a part-time position of 24.5 hours per week (0.7 FTE)

Salary £31,795 FTE (£22,256.5) plus 15% non-contributory pension or the choice to remain in the Church of England Clergy Pension Scheme.
