We are currently seeking a detail-driven, organized and experienced Bookkeeper to join our team and support the financial operations of our firm.
Job SummaryThe Accounting Clerk will be responsible for processing day-to-day financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring compliance with trust accounting rules and firm policies. This role is critical to supporting the firm’s financial health and ensuring smooth operation of billing and financial systems.
Key Responsibilities- Process accounts payable and assist with accounts receivable when needed
- Process daily check requests
- Verify trust settlement statements and issue trust checks
- Process client billing and ensure timely collections
- Process employee expense reimbursement checks
- Reconcile attorney credit card statements and pay each month
- Assist clients with billing inquiries
- Process pre-bills for attorney review as needed
- Close client matters and verify zero balance
- Process monthly sales tax report and online payment
- Ensure expenses are coded to the correct GL accounts
- Coordinate with external CPA for year-end reporting and audits
- Process all 10-99 forms timely and ensure W-9 forms are current
- Communicate with lawyers, staff, clients, and vendors daily
- Ensure compliance with legal industry accounting standards and trust accounting rules
- Other duties as assigned
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper, preferably in a legal or professional services setting; strong knowledge of accounting principles and trust accounting
- Proficiency in Accounting Seed, Juris (or other accounting software used); familiarity with legal practice management software (e.g., Aderant, Litify) is a plus; excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential information
- Must be able to report to work during scheduled work hours and maintain consistent attendance to fulfill the essential functions of the role
- Associate’s degree in accounting or finance preferred, relevant certifications a plus
