Geosyntec has an outstanding opportunity for a Civil Field Engineer to support our civil engineering and utility clients in the Mobile, AL area
. This is a field‑based role located at a project site near Mobile and will be connected to our Pensacola office
. Candidates must be commutable to Mobile
. This role will be heavily involved in Geosyntec's continued project work related to landfill design and construction; coal combustion residuals (CCR) pond closure design and construction; earth retaining structures; geotechnical stability monitoring; stormwater design; civil site design; and engineering construction support. In collaboration with top professionals in their field, the candidate will work on complex projects involving innovative civil design with unique water management and geotechnical challenges, but will also take a leading role in project and program management tasks for various civil and environmental design projects.

Most tasks will be within the markets listed above, but the individual may also perform tasks in other company practice areas (mining, geo‑environmental, geotechnical instrumentation monitoring), as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Developing and/or reviewing technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for civil design; site development and grading;
  • Completion or review of civil design packages;
  • Providing construction engineering support to large civil‑design and landfill projects;
  • Completing construction quality assurance (CQA) tasks for large civil‑design and landfill projects;
  • Providing oversight and project management of multi‑disciplinary projects and assistance in managing Client Programs;
  • Developing and maintaining strong collaborative internal (i.e., within Geosyntec) and external (i.e., clients and subcontractors) relationships;
  • Mentoring and developing early career engineers;
  • Preparing task orders and proposals including scope of work, cost/fee estimates, schedule, presentations, etc.;
  • Fieldwork:
    Up to 100%;
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related discipline (required)
  • Advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., PE) or ability to obtain one within a year of hire (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years (7+ preferred) of progressive experience in consulting industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
  • Experience performing civil design and site grading (required)
  • Experience in task and project management (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills (required)
  • Experience with relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil3D and ArcGIS) (preferred)
  • Field work and overnight travel required (required)
  • Current OSHA 40‑hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing may be required (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel (required)
