Position: PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER II – 37020103 – PENDING RECLASS

Position Overview and Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering reviews of various permit application types related to the permitting and regulation of wastewater treatment plants, collection systems, potable water systems, distribution and transmission systems, ERP and other stormwater management and treatment facilities submitted by professional engineers.
  • Reviews technical aspects of projects to determine that all materials and methods described in the application are addressed, complete and suitable for the circumstances and in accordance with sound engineering practices and principles and in accordance with specific engineering publications referenced in Department rules and in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Prepares applicable permitting documents.
  • Provides technical assistance and advice to consulting engineers, applicants, and others as necessary regarding project conformance with technical design criteria and all applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Performs inspections as necessary.
  • Integrates permitting with program compliance and enforcement activities.
  • Provides technical assistance to compliance and enforcement staff during the compliance inspection process or in development and pursuit of enforcement cases.
  • Reviews complaints and written and verbal inquiries and requests for information from the public utilizing engineering knowledge and technical skills to determine a course of action necessary to remedy problems.
  • Provides expert witness testimony as required.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable State and Federal rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to environmental programs.
  • Skill in collecting, evaluating, analyzing and interpreting scientific or technical data.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret aerial photography, site plans and drawings.
  • Knowledge of engineering design, construction, operations techniques, principles, and terminology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Driver License and to travel (with some overnight.)
  • At least 4 years of verifiable related experience in Environmental/Regulatory and/or Engineering. Post‑secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in Natural Science, Environmental Science or Engineering may be used as an alternative for the required 4 years of experience on a year‑for‑year basis. A credential evaluation report from a foreign degree must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
  • State of Florida Professional Engineer’s License in accordance with F.S. 471.
  • Pursuant to the sections 110.1127 and 435.04, Florida Statutes, and DEP Directive 422, a Background Investigation is required to successfully complete a background and fingerprint check.
Pay

Annual salary – $65,000.00 – $68,000.00
