Medical Receptionist I – Ear Nose & Throat

Job Description

Shift: 6:15 am–3:15 pm or 7:30 am–4:30 pm (Monday–Thursday);
Friday 7:30 am–12:30 pm. The schedule rotates. Travel required 2–3 times per week.

Work Locations:
The Main Hospital, 9‑Mile Medical Park, and Gulf Breeze Hospital.

The Medical Receptionist I greets and registers incoming patients in the practice management system, collects and enters demographic and insurance information with a high degree of accuracy, confirms and schedules appointments, collects copayments, verifies insurance, explains financial requirements, enters payments, receives incoming telephone calls, processes and follows up on referrals, initiates authorization requests, verifies benefits, documents authorizations, and communicates authorization status to medical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Greets visitors or patients and directs them appropriately using Baptist Health Care’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Enters all patient demographics into the practice management system and continually maintains patient information in the patient record.
  • Accounts for appointments and schedules patients properly; reminds patients of appointments and follows up with “no‑show” patients to reschedule.
  • Receives and routes incoming telephone calls in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment effectively.
  • Verifies health insurance eligibility and understands copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
  • Explains financial requirements to patients and collects patient financial portions (copays/coinsurance).
  • Reconciles daily charges and payments with high accuracy.
  • Coordinating and documenting patient referral information.
  • Obtaining prior authorizations for procedures.
  • Works closely with Baptist Medical Group representatives, insurance companies, patients, and family members.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to assign work and achieve goals.
    • Ability to prioritize work.
    • Comfortable with computers and related software applications.
    • Capable of making recommendations and handling complaints and requests in a professional and calm manner.
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
