The Registered Nurse serves as an expert in evaluating patients, administering care, recognizing complications, and coordinating with other members of the critical care team. This position uses advanced skills to care for patients who are critically ill and at high risk for life‑threatening health problems. This role is responsible for responding to life‑saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment, acting as patient advocate, and providing education and support to patient families.
The RN works independently to set criteria for the quality of patient care, assess patients’ needs, provide advanced nursing care, evaluate outcomes, and guide ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.
- Assess and diagnose patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
- Develop, discuss, and communicate a realistic plan of care for each patient to address all identified needs.
- Implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions, and procedures as necessary for the patient.
- Evaluate problem areas, care provided, and patient responses to ensure overall quality of care.
- Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care.
- Perform all responsibilities/duties required by the critical care unit/critical care division, including considerations for age of the client served.
- Maintain current knowledge, certification, and licensure.
- May be required to remain on campus before, during, and after severe weather or disasters.
Minimum Education
- Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing – Required
- Associate’s Degree Nursing – Required
- Bachelor’s Degree Nursing – Preferred
- 1‑3 years acute‑care nursing experience – Preferred
- Registered Nurse licensed in Florida or eligible compact state (upon hire)
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) – Required (upon hire)
- ACLS Provider (ACLS) – Required (upon hire)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) – Required within 90 days
- Demonstrated clinical competence and regulatory agency education classes in relevant nursing practice.
- Demonstrated proficiency in acute‑care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
