Overview

Job Description details for a retail associate role with responsibilities in store operations, customer experience, and leadership coverage in the absence of store management. The position may involve handling cash, vendor deliveries, merchandising, and basic store maintenance. The role requires adherence to company policies and local regulations while delivering a high standard of customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Open and close the store in the absence of store management, including required systems start-ups, cash handling, and ensuring the floor and stock room are ready for the business day. Responsible for opening the back door for deliveries.
  • Complete product returns, order voids, customer refunds, cash drops to the safe, and provide change for cash registers.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
  • Hold store keys to open and close without management as necessary.
  • Assist with and coach other team members in warehouse and vendor ordering processes, including opening the backdoor for vendor deliveries.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register, including records of scanning errors, price verifications, items not on file, price modifications, and voids.
  • Assist in reviewing order exceptions on order release day and assist in reverse logistics (e.g., returns, empty packaging).
  • Assist in evaluating and developing displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale merchandise; complete resets and revisions.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and on-hand quantities across basic departments, stockroom, and overstock locations.
  • Ensure the Outdate program is followed with team members.
  • Handle basic department pricing and daily price changes; ensure proper signage to support accurate pricing and comply with local regulations and regulatory programs.
  • Assist with bookkeeping activities, including cash reports, cash counts, ledgers, and bill payments as necessary.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance to maintain a clean, neat, and orderly store condition and appearance; request repairs as needed in the manager’s absence or as requested by the manager.
  • Manage product separation (e.g., raw foods vs. pre-cooked) and product placement as per policies; for consumables, assist in stock rotation using first-in, first-out and restock reductions.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of store systems and equipment; assist at pharmacy out window as requested.
  • Ensure compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages and tobacco).
  • Conduct bag checks of team members before leaving the store.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
  • Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager.
Communications
  • Serve as a liaison between management and non-management team members by communicating assigned tasks when store management is not present.
  • Report disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management.
External Basic Qualifications
  • One year of prior leadership, supervisory, or retail key holder work experience.
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.

  • Obtains and maintains valid PTCB certification or pharmacy license as required by state.
