Location: Whiting Field, FL
Job Overview: The EH&S Facilities & Fire Marshall / General Maintenance Worker is responsible for fire prevention, safety inspections, and general maintenance of facility equipment, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and company regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct fire prevention inspections throughout the facility and file reports for fire department and governmental review.
- Perform monthly inspections of portable fire extinguishers and coordinate annual inspections with the local Air Station Fire Department.
- Attend zone, fire, safety, and health inspections; participate in recurring meetings and training.
- Inspect automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and conduct safety inspections to identify potential hazards.
- Submit service requests to NAVFAC for routine, urgent, or emergency facility issues, providing photographic evidence of deficiencies.
- Communicate with Public Works and grant access for service requests.
- Assist the EH&S Manager with safety rule enforcement, resolution of compliance issues, and development of policies in accordance with OSHA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI, EPA, and other regulations.
- Carry out general maintenance on non‑aviation equipment and machinery, including movement, inventory, assembly, painting, repair, and upkeep.
- Maintain records of inspections, reports, and corrective actions.
- Perform other EH&S, facilities, and fire marshal projects as assigned.
- High‑school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- At least 2 years of verifiable experience in an EH&S program with hazardous material and waste responsibilities.
- Minimum 3 years of recent experience in the administration or operation of a safety and occupational health program.
- Extensive knowledge of regulations: OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910, DOT 49 CFR Parts 100‑185, EPA RCRA, and related federal and state requirements.
- Familiarity with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series and other Navy and company instructions.
- Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate safety programs; strong leadership in high‑performance maintenance settings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to develop PowerPoint training presentations.
- Excellent communication skills via Outlook, Teams, and phone.
- Capability to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Common Access Card (CAC) and required Security Clearance.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to operate company and government vehicles.
- Willingness to work weekends, shifts, and overtime as required, and to travel when necessary.
- Work in climates ranging from controlled to non‑controlled environments with potential exposure to weather extremes, noise, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical hazards.
- Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking. Limited lifting up to 50 pounds.
