The purpose of this position is to review a variety of plans for residential and commercial projects. This is accomplished by performing comprehensive analysis and examination of building construction plans, design, and specifications. Other duties may include completing related tasks as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performs plan reviews by reviewing and approving residential and commercial plans to ensure they conform to applicable codes and advising applicants of needed changes.
• Conducts research on plan specifications and checks calculations to ensure compliance with adopted codes. Interprets and applies state and local codes and regulations.
• Conducts meetings and advises engineers, architects, contractors, and the public on plan design, code interpretations, and resolution of design problems affecting life safety.
• Assists with processing applications for construction permits; receives logs and routes plan submittals.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

• High school plus additional coursework (equivalent to up to 1 year at a Community College or similar) resulting in comparable knowledge and abilities.

Experience:

• 2-4 years of previous experience in similar roles.
• Knowledge of complex techniques, concepts, practices, and routines related to plan review and code compliance.

Licenses and Certifications:

• A valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License upon hire.
• Two Certifications from the International Code Council (ICC) Residential:
  Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical preferred.
• ICC Residential Plans Examiner Certification or equivalent from another source within one year of hire.
