Summary of JobThe Peer Support Specialist II provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The role also assists in creating and implementing a recovery environment, and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of each participant. Support includes resume building, job searching, and recovery planning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Guest Care & Advocacy:
Provides coaching, mentoring, and role‑modeling to peer support staff; facilitates professional development training opportunities. - Provides support for participant wellness, groups, and activities that strengthen recovery.
- Ensures all program elements and expectations are being met.
- Engages participants in a recovery partnership; helps identify hopes, dreams, and solutions.
- Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
- Models hope, personal responsibility, and self‑advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be met.
- Cultivates connectedness in the participant’s life (self, others, environment, meaning, and purpose).
- Compliance &
Risk Management:
Completes clinical notes and facilitates documentation, transfers, and transition of guest care. - Stays abreast of all federal and state regulations, policies, and procedures; complies with Recovery Innovations standards, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policies.
- Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Assists with initial introductions to clinical team, coordinates services or resources, facilitates transportation and community integration. - Develops and maintains positive working relationships with team members.
- Additional Duties:
Creates peer‑level curriculum and facilitates group activities; performs other related duties as assigned. - Outpatient Programs:
Aids participants with resume building, job searching, recovery planning, and healthy living support.
- Education/Licenses:
Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist;
High School Diploma or equivalent. - Experience:
Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services; two (2) years full‑time behavioral health experience; additional training in peer‑related topics; experience in community navigation, resume writing, curriculum development, and family peer support. - Skills:
Basic computer skills; ability to teach and train recovery information and tools; effective communication skills; must pass de‑escalation training as defined by state requirements. - Driving Requirements:
If driving is required, must meet all Recovery Innovations driving policy requirements; otherwise a Non‑Driver Attestation must be signed. - Miscellaneous:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless a different minimum age requirement applies; travel required based on business need; maintain confidentiality (HIPAA) and professionalism;
