ALL ABOUT GENERAL MERCHANDISE

Experts of operations, process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for all of our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The job of General Merchandise and Food Sales teams is to lead inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all GM areas of the store. This team leads inventory accuracy, setting sales floor merchandise, and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

This team may lead Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food safe experience. Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by owning pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

  • Guest service fundamentals and experience building and managing a guest first culture on your team
    • Retail business fundamentals including: department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
    • Setting and planning department(s) monthly/quarterly workload to support business priorities and managing a team to deliver on sales goals
    • Knowledge of the competition; leveraging insights to drive business objectives
    • Managing a team of team leaders; creating business specific strategies and goals
    • Recruiting, selecting and talent management of hourly team members and leaders
    As General Merchandise Sales Executive Team Leader , no two days are ever the same, but a typical day most likely will include the following responsibilities:
    • Build and manage a team that executes tasks such as receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
    • Build and manage a team that executes inventory accuracy, sales floor merchandise setup and pricing processes for all areas of the store.
    • Drive total store sales, demonstrate how you, your team and your departments contribute to and impact total store profitability.
    • Model creating a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you and your team are completing your daily tasks.
    • Demonstrate how to engage with guests when assistance is needed, engage with guests in a welcoming way and help solve their specific needs.
    • Lead by thanking guests and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target.
    • Plan, manage, assess and validate best practices to determine operational opportunities.
    • Create, lead, and model a culture of executing all best practices as outlined with team onboarding, learning, and required training; help close skill gaps through development, coaching and team interactions.
    • Develop and coach your Team Leaders to elevate the skills and expertise of the team.
    • Establish and maintain a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management.
    • Develop a strategy and utilize your workload planning tools to complete all scheduled workload ensuring you are guest ready at all times.
