The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UlCOMP) Med-Peds Division is seeking a board‑certified or board‑eligible Med‑Peds physician for a full‑time position as an academic Med‑Peds physician. The position carries a dual appointment in the Internal Medicine and Pediatric Departments at UICOMP and can be composed of primarily inpatient duties, primarily outpatient duties, or a mixture of both depending on the faculty member’s interest.

The position is as an Assistant/Associate Professor or Professor. The ideal candidate will have completed four years of Med‑Peds residency or be in the final year (PGY4) and will be board‑certified or eligible in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. The faculty member will teach medical students and residents on inpatient teaching rounds, provide clinical services for patients hospitalized in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center (SFMC), organize and conduct research and QI programs with support from the UICOMP research department, and perform other typical faculty duties including committee assignments, curriculum development, and administration.

Opportunities exist for curriculum development, quality improvement, education, and clinical leadership in both departments.

There is also an opportunity to precept in the outpatient Med‑Peds residency clinic at Heartland Health Services and to serve on a procedure/POCUS service and a transition team for complex inpatient consults. The Med‑Peds Division at UICOMP is one of the largest and most established programs in the country, with eight residents per year and a resident‑first, family‑friendly environment.

The program’s primary teaching hospitals are OSF’s Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) and Saint Francis Medical Center (SFMC). In addition, applicants have access to the Jump Trading Simulation Education Center, a state‑of‑the‑art simulation facility for faculty curriculum design and participation.

Malpractice insurance is provided by the University of Illinois system and an excellent benefits package is available, including vacations, sick time, CME, health and life insurance, and a retirement plan.

Position Summary
This Med‑Peds Hospitalist will have an inpatient position with roles in both the Internal Medicine and Pediatric Departments. The Hospitalist will conduct rounds on the inpatient Medicine and Pediatric teaching services at SFMC and CHOI respectively, lead teaching rounds as a clinician educator, and provide patient care while teaching medical students and residents. The Hospitalist may also see patients independently on these services when residents are absent or have a day off of the service.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead teaching rounds and teach medical students and residents in the Internal Medicine and Pediatric department on teaching services.
  • Provide clinical services for patients hospitalized in the Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center (SFMC).
  • Organize and conduct research and QI projects as desired.
  • Provide attending physician coverage in the Med‑Peds continuity clinic at Heartland Health Center if desired. This includes precepting in the Med‑Peds residency continuity clinic and an opportunity for teaching medical students and residents as a clinic preceptor if desired alongside hospital‑based practice.
  • Participate in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs of the Departments of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine.
  • Perform other duties of a university faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student and resident mentoring, and administrative and leadership opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
