We invite high‑school STEM students to join us for a hands‑on, 8‑week internship that delivers real experience, networking, and a foundation for a STEM career.
What You Will DoThe program runs 40 hours per week over eight weeks. As a STEM Student Trainee (SST), you will collaborate with engineering professionals on live projects and may focus on one of the following areas (but not limited to):
- Product Design
:
Engineer components and systems for Caterpillar products, leading collaboration from concept through production. - Simulation / Performance Analysis
: CFD (ANSYS), FEA, 3D modelling, structural dynamics and performance optimization of engines, aftertreatment, battery, powertrain, and machine systems. - Test / Validation / Hands‑On
:
Troubleshoot and collaborate in a test environment to produce optimal results. - Controls Development
:
Implement control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink for engine or machine controllers; test and document features for production rollout. - Electronic Components
:
Design, test, and analyze circuit boards and control modules; conduct FMEA and meet quality requirements. - Embedded Software Development
:
Write embedded software in C, C#, or C++; support communications and performance optimization. - Software Validation / Verification
:
Verify functionality on HIL or SIL systems, debug and report anomalies. - Engineering Data Analytics
:
Apply Python and data‑science tools to support engineering decisions. - Process Engineering
:
Analyze and optimize engineering processes using mechanical, manufacturing, systems, or industrial engineering knowledge.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and root‑cause investigation skills.
- Foundational engineering principles and experience gained through projects, clubs, or work.
- Ability to design safe and functional systems and components.
- Project management skills and the ability to learn new concepts quickly.
- Effective communication in a diverse, multicultural environment.
- Proactive collaboration with peers and leaders at all levels.
- Inclusive and constructive professional behaviour.
- Must be 16 years old by the start of the program.
- Full‑time high‑school student at the time of application.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Leadership experience in a project or team.
- Participation in FIRST or similar robotics programs.
- Technical internship or research project experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attach an unofficial high‑school transcript and resume; applications missing either may not be considered.
- Position is non‑sponsorship; visa sponsorship not available.
Hourly Rate
: $15.00 – $17.00, based on student grade classification.
