Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role for a Supply Chain Planning Engineer based at an Applix client location in East Peoria, IL. This role is deeply hands‑on and execution‑focused, leading sourcing and procurement projects for iron castings and machined iron castings from quotation through steady‑state production.
The Supply Chain Planning Engineer will manage supplier sourcing and transitions, evaluate supplier readiness and total cost of ownership, coordinate tooling and production ramp‑ups, and ensure continuity of supply during supplier changes. You will work closely with buyers, supplier development engineers, design and manufacturing teams, and key stakeholders to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets are achieved.
Limited travel (0–10%) may be required for supplier visits, audits, and stakeholder meetings.
Key Responsibilities- Lead sourcing and procurement of complex iron castings and machined iron castings from quote through production launch and steady‑state supply.
- Evaluate supplier quotations for cost, quality, capacity, readiness, and total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Plan and execute source‑moves, including tooling transfers, supplier qualification, production readiness, and managed ramp‑ups.
- Monitor and manage buffer inventory to protect continuity of supply during supplier transitions.
- Collaborate closely with Buyers, Supplier Development Engineers, Design/Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure full technical and quality compliance.
- Prepare and present sourcing strategies, supplier evaluations, business cases, and risk assessments to stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate documentation across supplier data, cost models, inventory, tooling transfers, readiness reviews, and project status.
- Support team coordination and provide mentoring or guidance as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable procurement, sourcing, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience across Purchasing, Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Casting/Machining, Supplier Management, Supplier Development, Quality, or New Product Introduction.
- Strong business and financial acumen, with demonstrated ability to analyze supplier quotes, cost proposals, and total cost of ownership.
- Proven experience managing supplier transitions, tooling moves, and production ramp‑ups.
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability in fast‑paced manufacturing environments.
- Experience with supply chain planning tools, ERP systems, or sourcing platforms is highly desirable.
