Join IMEG’s Geotechnical team in Peoria, Illinois, as a Geotechnical Project Designer, where you’ll lead design efforts for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-impact assignments. You’ll work closely with engineers and consultants to deliver innovative geotechnical solutions for commercial, residential, and industrial clients, utilizing industry-standard tools such as Civil 3D, gINT, LPILE, and Deep Ex.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Direct and train Geotechnical Designers to complete reports, exhibits, plans, and specifications per project scope.
  • Lead design efforts for civil site projects, creating detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and IMEG standards.
  • Oversee projects through conceptual, planning, bidding, and construction administration phases.
  • Coordinate and manage geotechnical and construction materials testing project activities.
  • Inspect work, troubleshoot field quality control issues, and provide recommendations for corrections.
  • Interact with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong relationships.
  • Support project execution, planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and monitor project progress related to percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems, propose solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices; contribute to research and innovation.
  • Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance; interpret and apply state and local design criteria.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek guidance from the Project Manager.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Master of Science (MS) Degree in Civil Engineering preferred
  • 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required
  • Knowledge of industry standard engineering software, (e.g., primarily Civil 3D, gINT, LPILE, Deep Ex, etc.).
  • Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications (helpful in crafting geotechnical recommendations)
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in the geotechnical engineering field
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Able to lead teams with others that utilize industry standard software that assists with civil engineering analysis and design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
    Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays
