Senior Engineer – Design (Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL)
This role provides technical leadership in the design, analysis, and validation of critical undercarriage components across EM and HEX product families. The focus is on product design, manufacturing, and process quality while meeting program timelines and cost goals.
Responsibilities- Develop design concepts and drawings for complex structural systems that meet functional, technical, cost, weight, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
- Support validation activities, including test and field trials.
- Lead NPI, CPI, and APQP activities, collaborating with external suppliers, internal manufacturing facilities, and cross‑functional engineering partners.
- Mentor junior engineers, guide design decisions, and lead issue resolution for factory, field, and customer support needs.
- Drive design excellence to improve product performance and influence long‑term undercarriage strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related accredited program.
- Strong experience with Creo Parametric, Creo Simulate, and Structural Stress for design and validation.
- Proficiency in rapid prototyping, DFMEA, design reviews, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Knowledge of APQP, NPI/CPI programs, and manufacturing feasibility that includes supplier collaboration.
- Experience with structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) tools for robust solutions.
- Effective communication skills for documents, presentations, and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Self‑starter, accountable, quality‑focused, customer‑driven with strong teamwork and organizational skills.
Onsite work five days a week at the Peoria, IL office. Domestic relocation assistance is available. Visa sponsorship is NOT available. The position may require up to 10% travel.
