Senior Mechanical Engineer – Structural & Welding Design
Location: Peoria, IL
Duration: 12+ months, with potential for extension
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in structural design, welding, and product design to support specialized naval and maritime defense programs. This role will focus on mechanical and structural design, design reviews, material strength, welding requirements, and ensuring components and systems meet applicable engineering standards and project specifications.
The ideal candidate will have experience interpreting engineering drawings, evaluating structural integrity, reviewing welding details, and supporting complex mechanical systems. Experience in defense shipbuilding, Navy or Coast Guard programs, and MIL-STD-901 shock testing and analysis is highly desirable.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Senior-level engineering experience, ideally approximately 15 years of relevant experience.
- Strong background in mechanical engineering, structural design, and welding.
- Experience with welding requirements, welding symbols, engineering prints, and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with product design, drafting, and engineering drawing reviews.
- Proficiency with Creo, AutoCAD, or similar CAD design software.
- Understanding of structural integrity, material properties, strength of materials, and stress analysis.
- Ability to interpret engineering specifications, standards, and technical documentation.
- Ability to work onsite five days per week in Peoria, IL.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the defense shipbuilding, naval, or maritime industry.
- Experience supporting U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard programs.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-901 shock testing, shock loading calculations, and related analysis.
- Experience with shipboard mechanical systems, fluid systems, and component integration.
- Experience reviewing or supporting structural and mechanical designs for shock resistance and demanding operating environments.
