Assistant Controller - CAAS - Nonprofit at CLA (Clifton Larson Allen )

CLA is seeking an Assistant Controller with nonprofit industry experience to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice in Central Illinois, with locations in Peoria, Champaign, Dixon, and Bloomington.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client’s accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
  • Act as a consultant and advisor to clients on best accounting and finance practices.
  • Maintain project management expertise by handling multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
  • Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
  • Foster and build opportunities for clients, communities, and people.
  • Attend industry-leading events and training to become an industry professional.
  • Maintain knowledge of the client’s policies, federal and state directives, and current accounting standards.
What You Will Need
  • 4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree (required; experience may substitute).
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Nonprofit experience highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
Skills/Knowledge
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting.
  • Strong organizational, goal‑oriented, and self‑motivated skills.
  • Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and value diverse contributions.
  • Proven success in managing work and key client relationships to exceed expectations.

Compensation

Competitive wages in Illinois: $77,000.00 – $ per year, adjusted for geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge.
