Assistant Controller - CAAS - Nonprofit at CLA (Clifton Larson Allen )
CLA is seeking an Assistant Controller with nonprofit industry experience to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice in Central Illinois, with locations in Peoria, Champaign, Dixon, and Bloomington.
Responsibilities- Perform Assistant Controller functions as part of the client’s accounting services team and manage these functions for your clients.
- Act as a consultant and advisor to clients on best accounting and finance practices.
- Maintain project management expertise by handling multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
- Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
- Foster and build opportunities for clients, communities, and people.
- Attend industry-leading events and training to become an industry professional.
- Maintain knowledge of the client’s policies, federal and state directives, and current accounting standards.
- 4 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience (required).
- Bachelor’s degree (required; experience may substitute).
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Nonprofit experience highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting.
- Strong organizational, goal‑oriented, and self‑motivated skills.
- Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and value diverse contributions.
- Proven success in managing work and key client relationships to exceed expectations.

Competitive wages in Illinois: $77,000.00 – $ per year, adjusted for geography, experience, education, skills, and knowledge.
