Human Resources Assistant – Peoria, IL – $22.00–$24.00/hr DOE

ELM Companies is seeking 2 full‑time Human Resources Assistants for our corporate office in Peoria, IL. The role supports hiring‑related functions such as personnel file management, data entry, phone call handling, employee onboarding, and other administrative tasks. This fast‑paced position requires strong organization, accuracy, and critical thinking skills.

General office hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday.

Main Responsibilities
  • Order pre‑employment screenings for offered candidates (drug screens, background checks, motor vehicle records).
  • Collect and verify hiring documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify new employees’ eligibility to work through E‑Verify.
  • Assist with internal and external audit or testing information.
  • Maintain personnel employment file information.
  • Enter data into the HRIS database for new employees.
  • File and scan documents into the electronic filing system.
  • Prioritize time‑sensitive requests.
  • Communicate status or screening results to management.
  • Complete additional tasks as requested by company or customers.

General Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous HR experience or a related degree is a plus.
  • Strong administrative and customer‑service experience.
  • Experience with pre‑employment checks or recruiting is a plus.
  • Excellent typing and data‑entry skills.
  • Professional conduct and confidentiality are mandatory.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
