Position: MACHINIST (Title 32) with Security Clearance
Duties As a MACHINIST (Title 32), WG-3414-11, you will perform machining operations and welding to accomplish the manufacture and repair of aircraft components, tools,equipment, parts, and special tools. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
* Perform all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools, and assemblies.
* Perform bending, cutting, forming, casting, cleaning, molding, sawing, machining, and assembling of locally fabricated aircraft components.
* Perform machining operations requiring multiple set-ups and methods such as cutting, milling, grinding, welding, and polishing.
* Perform production work of aircraft parts and work to tolerances ranging from .010 to .0005 inch.
* Compare machine parts with drawings, technical orders, and specifications to verify conformance with established tolerances, fits, and surface finish.
* Troubleshoot difficult metal machining designs and fabrication problems involving complex shapes and precision requirements.
* Perform shop calculations including determining peripheral cutting speeds and machine settings.
* Determine metal identity and characteristics using spark, acid, fire, magnetic, alkaline, heat, quench, and fracture tests.
* Test metal specimens for tensile, bend, shear, and impact strength using materials testing machines.
* Heat treat metal parts and perform specialized welding processes to meet required strength and structural standards.
* Lay out work, read and interpret blueprints, technical publications, and detailed machining instructions.
* Design and draw working sketches needed to fabricate aircraft parts, tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
* Compare manufactured or repaired components with drawings and specifications to determine accuracy and serviceability.
* Inspect tapered or precision surfaces by applying bearing blue and using a surface plate.
* Determine reparability of damaged machine parts, tools, and aircraft components based on specifications and technical data.
* Make precision measurements using micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, gauges, and other precision instruments.
* Weld ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys-including cobalt, chrome, nickel, aluminum, magnesium, and titanium-using multiple welding processes.
* Weld butt, lap, tee, and corner joints in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions.
* Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to fabricate, weld, assemble, or modify aircraft components.
* Test metals using Rockwell or Brinell hardness methods to determine strength and serviceability. Requirements Conditions of employment

* This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. * This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
* Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
* Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
* Recruitment and relocation incentives may be available for this position.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
* May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate, to perform temporary duty assignments.
* The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
* Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
