American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment on a busy Surgical Acute unit, requiring an active IL RN license and at least 1 year of experience.
Requirements- Active IL RN license required
- BLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
- Strong critical thinking skills and post-op patient care experience required
- Comfortable asking for help when needed, with a strong bedside manner and team player attitude
- Surgical Acute unit in an acute care hospital setting with 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation)
- Patient population includes post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights, with potential increases to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights when needed
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts from
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Rotates every other holiday
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers float first to units with similar experience level; ICU RNs floating to general units take a team of 3 patients
- Dedicated charge RNs on each shift who do not take patient assignments, plus 24/7 house supervisor coverage
- PCTs support the unit with ratios of 7-10 patients per PCT on days and 10-15 on nights, assisting with vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation
- No ventilator management required; CPAP and high flow are used, with RNs managing inhalers and CPAP placement while RT manages nebulizers
- Telemetry monitoring available with a central monitor station; bedside RNs are not required to read strips
- RNs are not required to titrate drips, though heparin is a common titratable drip on the unit
- Provide direct patient care for post-op surgical and overflow medical patients, including wound care and management of drains, central lines, and TPN
- Unit orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one additional 12-hour shift for EPIC training and professional orientation with a unit educator
- Any color scrubs accepted
