American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a dedicated Neuro Med-Surg unit requiring Level 1 trauma background and prior travel nursing experience.

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience cases with some medical overflow
• RNs titrate drips, including heparin based on PTT
• High flow oxygen used occasionally for stable COVID patients
• House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; RNs are not required to read strips
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7
• Nurse aides/patient care techs present with ratios of 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating required in rotation with staff, with assignments based on skill competency if floated outside the general unit
• Uses EPIC EMR

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

• 2-day unit orientation including computer training and unit-specific education with an educator, plus a shift caring for patients with a preceptor
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are allowed
• COVID vaccination is not required
• Local candidates accepted at a reduced rate for those within 50 miles of the facility
