Retail Associate (Part-Time)
Goodwill of Central Illinois invites applications for a part‑time Retail Associate. Pay is $15 per hour. The role supports the store management team in achieving operational goals across multiple capacities, including cashier, textiles or wares producer, donation door attendant, eCommerce producer, e‑books producer, and rack or cart runner.
Job ResponsibilitiesCashier
- Ring up customer orders, maintain a balanced drawer, and follow all cash handling procedures.
- Provide general information about Goodwill programs to educate customers and answer questions. Direct higher‑level questions to the appropriate associate or manager.
- Maintain cleanliness of the sales floor (purge, size, run racks, and merchandise).
Textiles or Wares Producer
- Sort product to identify quality and value, checking for holes, missing buttons, defective zippers, or stains, and cleaning as needed.
- Produce 100 items per hour for wares or 85 items per hour for textiles, adhering to Goodwill’s pricing standards and updating the daily production tracking sheet.
- Occasionally use a pallet jack and regularly use a conveyor belt.
Donation Door Attendant
- Accept donations from customers and maintain a clean and clear donation door.
- Quickly and accurately sort products and distribute them to appropriate areas.
- Maintain an efficient working area by keeping the backroom clean and organized.
- Load and unload trucks as needed, regularly using heavy equipment such as a pallet jack, double stacker, floor scrubber, and hydraulic lift.
E‑Commerce Producer
- Identify and secure items of value for Click Goodwill.
- Stay informed of market value through eBay and other online sites to properly tag, itemize, and secure items in totes for Click Goodwill.
- Pack curated products onto pallets, wrap, and ship totes to Click Goodwill to meet the store’s budgeted number of totes shipped per week.
E‑Books Producer
- Scan books received by the store and decide what is sent to Click Goodwill or displayed at the store to meet the budget.
- Print inventory sheets and pack, seal, and ship totes for Click Goodwill.
- Identify top sellers and maintain a clean, organized, in‑store display that drives sales.
Rack and Cart Runner
- Check each rack/cart to ensure quality and value.
- Properly size, merchandise, and purge the sales floor.
- Maintain a clean and orderly sales floor, put away carts, and stock shelves.
- Run one textile rack/wares cart per 15 minutes and update the daily production tracking sheet.
- No degree or credential required; candidates must demonstrate capability and articulate how prior experience will contribute.
- Customer focus: ability to engage impartial, unbiased, and effective with customers.
- Teamwork: works well with others and makes valued contributions to achieve team outputs.
- Ethical: adheres to procedures, maintains confidentiality, and follows Goodwill’s values.

- Technical knowledge: familiarity with computers and relevant software, basic computer and Internet navigation.
- Communication skills: articulates thoughts effectively using oral, written, visual, and non‑verbal skills; listens to customers’ needs.
- Mathematical aptitude: applies mathematical thinking to solve everyday problems.
- Critical thinking: uses judgment and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
- Physical work: able to spend time in excess of 8 hours sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching; able to move and lift 10–50 pounds.
