Diesel Mechanic

Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Peoria, Illinois.

• Hourly Pay: $30.00 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
• Sign‑On Bonus: $1,500 at 30 days and $1,500 at 90 days
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends OFF
• Hours:
  
  Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or Technical Certification / Post‑secondary degree or technical certifications, preferred
• Basic tools – required
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
  • Routine preventive maintenance – oil changes, brake and tire work, required
• Two (2) years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience, preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred
• This position requires you to drive Ryder vehicles. In order to become a Ryder employee you must:
  • Obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder Drug Test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder Background and Motor Vehicle Check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Perform standard vehicle maintenance
• Perform standard component inspections and repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Diagnose standard mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identify root causes of basic failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task
• Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including but not limited to Service Island support
