Full-time General Practice Veterinary Assistant at Pet Vet Care Centers' Perry Animal Hospital is currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join their team.

The veterinary assistant supports veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks: cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and owners, show them to an examining room, and record weight and vital signs
• Triage patients and perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed veterinary technicians
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, etc.)
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, and maintain proper documentation of controlled drugs
• Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report any unusual or abnormal conditions
• Communicate positively with clients to ensure comfort and confidence
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medication plans
• Maintain daily cleanliness of the hospital, cleaning equipment, kennels, and facilities, ensuring safe use of chemicals, and completing laundry
• Bath and care patients who stay overnight, ensuring proper grooming prior to release
• Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Show up regularly; full-time presence at work is essential for every shift
• Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
• Respond respectfully with urgency to directions given by Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Licensed Veterinary Technicians
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Manager; may have other assigned duties if working in a specialty area (e.g., dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in a veterinary environment performing all of the duties of this position
• May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience
• Maintains current knowledge in the field and seeks continuing education opportunities
• Ability to restrain animals, fill prescriptions, and monitor sedation procedures
• Ability to work with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
• Knowledge of hospital procedures, policies, and services, client and patient treatment protocols, hospital computer systems, and standard procedures, records, and terminology
• Extended periods at a keyboard or workstation and/or standing, walking, lifting, and balancing
• Strenuous job requiring repetitive lifting, cleaning, and constant motion; may involve climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
• Moderately physically demanding work lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds)
