Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Hospitalist/ER - FT Wknd Pkg (24 hr shift Saturdays and Sundays 7p-7a)

This position is a weekend package position so the individual would be scheduled every weekend. The hours for this position are as follows:
Saturdays 24-hour shift starting at 7am on Saturday and Sundays 12‑hour shift from 7pm‑7am.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Obtains complete, detailed, and accurate histories, reviews patient records, and performs complete physical examinations as scheduled or required.
  • Performs general patient examinations related to the patient’s stated medical problems to establish diagnosis and develop an appropriate care plan.
  • Rounds on patients ensuring all lab work, diagnostic results are communicated to the patient and providers as appropriate.
  • Completes all documentation in patient‑care record accurately and timely.
  • Requests appropriate laboratory and radiological procedures related to patient’s condition to assist in diagnostic assessment. Interprets results as appropriate with review of physician.
  • Requests appropriate therapeutic pharmacological regimes related to the patient’s diagnosis and condition and instructs patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions.
  • Performs routine therapeutic procedures including injections; care of superficial wounds and burns; removal of foreign bodies from skin; application of and removal of sutures and casts; and other procedures as appropriate.
  • Recognizes and evaluates situations which call for immediate attention of primary care physicians and institutes, when necessary, treatment procedures are essential for the life of the patient.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding their physical and mental health including diet, social habits, family planning, normal growth and development, aging, and long term management and understanding of patient’s disease.
  • Adheres to EMTALA guidelines.
  • Follows universal precautions/infection control policies. Uses appropriate personal protection equipment and work‑practice controls when necessary; uses sterile or aseptic techniques when required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to all OSHA and infection‑control policies.
  • Completes on‑the‑job orientation and competency skills checklist satisfactorily.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Maintains ongoing compliance with DCH educational and training requirements.
  • Adheres to the DCH Mission, Values, Vision, and Standards of Behavior.
  • Maintains patient and hospital confidentiality.
  • Promotes and maintains positive relationships with patients, visitors, coworkers, and providers.
  • Actively participates in department huddles, in‑services, meetings, and educational opportunities.
  • Follows all departmental policies and procedures and adheres to departmental budget.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Graduate of accredited program for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistant.
  • Current and unrestricted licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner by the Iowa Board of Nursing or Physician Assistant.
  • BLS and Mandatory reporting certified or within 90 days of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certified or within one year of hire.
  • Associated with ANCC or AANP.
  • Proof of acceptable liability insurance coverage.
  • Must maintain eligibility for federal DEA registration and state of Iowa controlled substances registration.
  • Overall attention to detail, organizational ability, and ability to prioritize.
  • The ability to work in teams and communicate accurately and clearly.
  • Computer experience using Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook.

Technical

Skills:

Ability to operate essential equipment and perform essential procedures in nursing department. Demonstrates knowledge, abilities and skills required to perform a wide variety of nursing functions. Mathematical ability is necessary to compute drug dosages accurately. Annual completion of unit specific competencies.
