Reliability Lab Supervisor – First Solar

Responsibility Highlights- Supervise reliability lab operations effectively and efficiently, interacting with engineers and development group to determine test priority, schedule equipment, and assign technicians.
- Develop processes to improve testing throughput and quality, maintain lab safety, and manage technician performance, training, and evaluations.
- Ensure all tests are completed as per schedule, including sample acquisition, testing, and data entry for all reliability tests.
- Acquire test priority from multiple business groups and execute testing based on priority.
- Develop and maintain technician training program: write and update work instructions, document training program, and perform technician training.
- Ensure all tests are performed per written instructions and technician training is up to date.
- Perform baseline and post‑test measurements as needed and maintain accurate test data.
- Communicate daily and immediately any abnormal findings on the product or testing equipment.
- Support engineers on any improvement project related to product or testing equipment.
- Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated on time and schedule equipment resources and technicians accordingly.
- Perform data analysis using JMP and SQL applications and prepare summary reports for reliability investigations and metrics.
- Enforce procedures and apply disciplinary action as needed, develop associate GPS, and conduct quarterly performance reviews.
- Assist in any other tasks or jobs assigned by the manager and audit lab processes for compliance.
- Support and react to daily lab operation issues and maintain a clean lab to 5S standards.
- Maintain and report lab operation metrics, assist with in‑house and outdoor module reliability testing, and foster effective communication and team building.
- Work long hours and weekends as required to support testing.

- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Electrical preferred) with minimum 4 years work experience in a manufacturing or lab environment and at least 1 year of supervision or leadership experience.
- Associate's degree in a technical discipline (Electrical preferred) with minimum 7 years of work experience in a manufacturing or lab environment and at least 3 years of supervision or leadership experience.
- First Solar supervisory experience for a minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing or lab setting.
- 10 years of reliability lab, supervisory, or leadership experience.
- Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and database experience (Intermediate required, Advanced desired).
- Proven ability to train and develop associates.
- Proven ability to develop and implement operational systems to improve safety and throughput.
- Basic data analysis skills.
- Able to use tools and operating equipment effectively.
- Knowledge of human resources practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills to manage employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Self‑motivated to work independently with little supervision.
- Strong problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Ability to operate a forklift is required.
- Reports to the Manager‑Lab Reliability.
- Has multiple direct reports.
- 0% – 5% (on occasion/as needed for training, etc.).
- $61,000 – $87,000 annually.
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for the duration of a shift.
- Will climb stairs occasionally.
- Will lift, push, or pull up to 37 pounds occasionally.
- Requires frequent use of hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
- 20/40 vision in both eyes together, with or without correction, is required.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently.
