- Oversees day‑to‑day department operations, including preventive maintenance, testing, repair, calibration, and documentation.
- Maintains scheduling of BMET team members.
- Manages recruitment, evaluations, and disciplinary action of BMET team members.
- Tests and calibrates medical devices prior to use in patient care areas.
- Troubleshoots medical devices in a clinical and/or bench/depot setting.
- Evaluates, selects, installs, and inspects new trial and/or demonstration medical devices prior to use.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory processes (CMS, FDA, GMP, NJDOH, etc.).
- Supports integration with medical device software/hardware systems (Networking, Cyber Security, Integration Specialist, etc.).
- Conducts investigations and provides feedback on patient care medical device incidents.
- Educates team on proper use, care, and maintenance of medical devices.
- Reviews technical manuals and educates the team for understanding.
- Documents all maintenance and repairs and maintains records of maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoots medical device networks.
- Maintains inventory or repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.
- Orders repair parts and/or components and supplies using HMH ERP system(s).
- Maintains incoming and outgoing equipment log for repair and maintenance.
- Transports devices or arranges transportation to ensure safe operation or storage of devices.
- Stays informed of changes, enhancements, and new features for equipment and machines.
- Attends on‑site, off‑site, and/or out‑of‑state training, including travel and overnight stays.
- Travels to other HMH locations as needed.
- Manages compliance with response and resolution time per departmental SLA.
- Monitors equipment support contracts for performance and cost‑saving opportunities.
- Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Lifts a minimum of 50 pounds, pushes and pulls 50 pounds, and stands for a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- BS in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 8 years BMET experience, or AS with 10 years, or US military biomedical equipment technology program graduate with 10 years full‑time BMET experience, or high school diploma/ GED with 12 years BMET experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of FDA, Joint Commission, CMMS, and NJDOH standards.
- Demonstrated understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to communicate use of all patient care medical devices.
- Ability to locate and follow manufacturer documentation.
- Understanding of computerized maintenance management systems.
- Ability to access public FDA 510(k) information.
- Knowledge of device recalls and their purpose.
- Supports customer service principles.
- Familiar with hospital, clinic, or similar environment.
- Unrestricted ability to attend on‑job and off‑site training requiring travel.
- Basic understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of various types of patient care medical equipment and associated risks.
- Basic terminology used in project management.
- Advanced experience in the assigned clinical environment.
- Experience with a wide range of medical devices, electromechanical devices, computers, networks, and software used in healthcare delivery; leadership of other BMET team members.
