The Retail Banking Manager leads and develops the strategy for a designated geographical cluster of branches. This role is accountable for financial performance (P&L), new business development, customer experience, hiring, coaching, and complying with all policies and procedures. The Retail Banking Manager has in-depth knowledge and relationships within the region they manage.

Executive presence coupled with authenticity and thoughtfulness in approach are critical for fit for the role. Emphasis is placed on ensuring that the region achieves budgeted results and effectively manages risk. The Retail Banking Manager is responsible to develop new business with a focus on small business loans and further expand existing business relationships while attracting new money.

In this position, you will:

P/L Management

  • Be fully accountable to manage the branch budget by ensuring revenues and expenses meet or exceed goals

Sales Management

  • Have overall responsibility for the assigned cluster of branches performance inclusive of deposit portfolio, loan production (Consumer and Small Business), Investment, Cash Management and Personal Credit Card sales, Private Banking and Residential Mortgage portfolios and digital channel adoption
  • Implement regional sales strategy, leveraging technology, with an emphasis on identifying customer opportunities, developing and implementing business plans based on local market drivers
  • Institute a sales and service culture with a sharp focus on providing clients with a best in class customer experience that leaves a mark of authenticity, warmth, competence and simplicity
  • Support new marketing campaigns and product launches, develop micro-marketing efforts to achieve sales results, and ensure all resources are utilized to obtain regional goals
  • Foster collaboration and partnership with peers in Popular’s Commercial and Wealth Management Divisions by developing a robust two-way flow of business referrals
  • Build and manage a robust branch loan and deposit sales pipeline. Review reporting and provide consistent feedback to all employees on performance against sales targets
  • Develop a strong community network of local leaders and business to promote the assigned cluster of branches' active involvement within the community

Leadership

  • Mentor and coach staff through leadership by example of Popular’s Institutional values:

  • Ensure adherence to Popular’s brand standards around consistently delivering a best in class customer experience while following all guidelines and procedures
  • Ensure all cluster's Branch Managers have an active involvement within the communities they serve and report all CRA related activities to appropriate unit
  • Effectively establish and communicate the bank’s goals to Branch Teams, gain commitment, and establish plan of action for goal attainment

Operations

  • Be fully accountable for branch assessment, audits (internal or external), and BSA efforts
  • Ensure operational risks are mitigated and branch and teams adhere to regulatory compliance policies and procedures
  • Oversee branch operating models to ensure strict adherence to Popular’s policies and procedures and ensure preventative and corrective actions are implemented

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage the retail banking operations and mentor the assigned area branches.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and coaching employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
To be considered, you will need:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university and/or 7 years related experience in a financial service organization or equivalent related experience and training
  • Prior experience as a Branch Manager preferred
  • NMLS registration;
    Safe Act compliant
