This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pensions professional with strong knowledge of occupational pension schemes to take ownership of the operational delivery of pension administration, while also providing leadership and technical guidance to the wider team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring pension services are delivered to a consistently high standard, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, member experience and effective operational controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Take overall responsibility for the effective administration of the organisation's defined benefit pension arrangements, ensuring member records, calculations, payments and correspondence are maintained to a high standard.
* Provide day-to-day leadership to the pensions administration team, allocating workloads, monitoring performance and supporting the ongoing development of team members.
* Oversee key financial, operational and data processes, ensuring appropriate controls are in place around reconciliations, payments, confidential information and data protection.
* Provide specialist pensions advice on more complex cases, acting as a senior point of escalation for member queries, complaints and technically challenging issues.
* Work closely with internal teams including HR and Payroll, as well as Trustees, advisers, auditors and other external stakeholders.
* Keep up to date with changes to pensions legislation and regulation, ensuring any necessary amendments are identified and implemented effectively.
* Review existing processes and systems, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls and enhance the overall member experience.
* Support the delivery of wider pensions projects and initiatives, providing technical input and ensuring agreed changes are implemented effectively.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong background in UK occupational pensions administration, ideally with significant experience working with defined benefit/final salary schemes.
You will also bring:
* Strong technical understanding of defined benefit pension schemes, including benefit calculations, scheme rules, HMRC requirements and relevant UK legislation.
* Previous experience of supervising, leading or developing a pensions administration team.
* A highly organised and methodical approach, with excellent attention to detail when handling complex calculations, financial information and sensitive member data.
* The confidence to deal with complex pension queries and provide clear, practical guidance to a range of stakeholders.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with Trustees, advisers, auditors, HR, Payroll and scheme members.
* A proactive mindset with a genuine interest in improving processes, strengthening controls and delivering a high-quality service.
* The ability to manage competing priorities effectively within a regulated and deadline-driven environment.
