Psychiatry Consultant in Rehabilitation Psychiatry Full Time

10PAs per week / 40 Hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity available in one of the UK’s most up and coming and rapidly developing Cities.

This post represents an excellent opportunity to strike the perfect work / home life balance for an enthusiastic and committed general adult psychiatrist looking to further develop their interest in psychiatric rehabilitation.

We are seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Psychiatrist to lead the delivery of an Adult Rehabilitation Psychiatric service in Tayside. The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary team providing the Tayside wide Adult Rehabilitation and Enhanced Care service, with a base in the modern accommodation provided within Amulree Ward at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth.

We would welcome applications from persons wishing to work part-time and we fully support flexible working. In addition, we would be willing to consider split posts working across rehabilitation and other psychiatric specialties or special interests. It would be expected that the post would provide a most attractive and satisfying mix of clinical (DCC) and supporting professional activities (SPA), dependant on the interests and aspirations of the successful applicant.

The service in particular encourages a ‘portfolio’ approach to career development, enabling clinicians to develop to their fullest potential across their working lives. Mentorship is available to consultants at the start of the careers.

This position offers the post holder the opportunity to join an enthusiastic and committed team at a time of service wide change and development. NHS Tayside and its partner organisations are committed to the delivery of the Tayside wide Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and to making appropriate investment to implement the changes agreed therein. The post holder will have a central role in developing and shaping recovery based services within our specialist General Adult Psychiatry and Community based Mental Health services.

Mental health services across Tayside are currently undertaking an impressive and wide ranging transformational change and quality improvement programme aiming to be the most exemplary and highest performing service in Scotland. The successful applicant will be fully supported and encouraged to take an influential role in this exciting change programme.

Tayside covers a large area of central Scotland, from the stunning Perthshire mountains and glens to the productive rural farmlands of central Perthshire and Angus. The historic cities of Perth and Dundee service the region. A truly special place to live and work with a vast range of affordable housing, excellent schools and superb leisure opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast.

NHS Tayside is supportive of continuous professional development, and all of our posts include 2 PAs for supporting professional activities (pro-rata).

Applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full time.

Applicants should have full GMC registration and a licence to practise, and be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of a CCT or CESR (CP) at the time of interview. If you have appropriate specialist training and experience but are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register you can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.

Whilst in locum employment, you can apply to obtain a CESR and enter onto the Specialist Register.
