Join our dynamic Water Team as an Associate Director Mechanical Engineering in one of our Scotland offices – while also enjoying hybrid workdays.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support
- Act as Lead Verifier for Mechanical design drawings, mechanical plant selection, specifications, WIMES Data Sheets, Valve schedules, Equipment Schedules, lifting strategies, hydraulic headloss calculations and P&IDs
- Liaise and collaborate with our water and other discipline teams including civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers nationwide
- Lead a Mechanical Engineering Team preparing designs of the Mechanical Elements for Water Treatment Plants, Wastewater Treatment Plants and Infrastructure projects
- Develop scopes, proposals, estimates and programmes for Mechanical engineering projects
- Manage and deliver the Mechanical Engineering elements of multi‑disciplinary Water Projects, acting as Mechanical Lead on projects such as WwTW, WTW and Infrastructure, supporting the Project Manager and Design Lead to successfully deliver the Mechanical Scope to programme and budget
- Act as overall Design Lead for mechanically biased projects
- Mentor and support junior engineers and provide training and development
- Visit site to carry surveys and support liaisons with clients, contractors & suppliers
- Lead and contribute design review meetings such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs and SWIFTS
- Assist the Project Manager to set realistic programmes and budgets for Mechanical projects
- Be a line manager for Senior Engineers and Principal Engineers

Qualifications- A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- A Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution, such as IMechE
- A proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications, and calculations with confidence and precision
- Hands‑on experience in delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater engineering projects
