Overview

Are you ready to support and help lead a team of talented engineers and shape the future of the water industry? Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Civil Engineer in one of our Scotland offices — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness or Perth — while utilising our flexible hybrid working model. AECOM is at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients.

We have been named as one of two Primary Designers for Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise, a transformational, multi-billion-pound programme that will reshape Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027 to 2033 (with potential to extend for another 6 years). This role offers the opportunity to contribute to this programme and collaborate with a diverse team committed to innovation and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership:
Lead project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes that meet client expectations and manage design scope within budget and programme constraints.
  • Technical Expertise:
Apply strong technical understanding, stay current with industry practices and innovations, and lead quality assurance for project deliverables to ensure standards and client requirements are met.
  • Team Development:
Lead the development and management of design teams in the Perth office, collaborate with colleagues across the UK and Ireland, mentor junior staff, and foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
Act as a strong communicator capable of engaging with clients, team members, and external partners across multiple projects.
  • Health & Safety Leadership:
Maintain a strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation and embed a safety-first culture within your area of responsibility.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Proven experience in civil engineering leadership within water/energy infrastructure projects.
  • Strong technical background with experience in design delivery, quality assurance, and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff and work effectively across multiple sites and teams.
  • Commitment to health and safety best practices and compliance with applicable legislation.
Benefits

We offer an inclusive and forward-thinking environment with core benefits designed to support your future and well-being, plus flexible benefits you can tailor to your lifestyle. Take advantage of our technical practice networks, AECOM University, volunteering days, and a flexible hybrid working model to support work-life balance. We are happy to discuss part-time or flexible working arrangements.
