With internationally acclaimed Scottish actor, writer and director Alan Cumming recently appointed as Artistic Director and a new Chief Executive leading the organisation into its next chapter, the theatre is entering an exciting period of growth, innovation and increased national and international profile.

For the successful applicant, this represents a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of one of Scotland’s most celebrated cultural institutions at a pivotal moment in its evolution. As a not-for-profit organisation, they are committed to cultural enrichment and artistic excellence, supported by robust financial management and governance.

THE ROLE

This is a senior leadership role where you will shape and execute the financial strategy while ensuring operational efficiency and strong governance. You’ll work closely with the leadership team to support the theatre’s artistic vision, while driving financial sustainability.

  • Lead all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and reporting
  • Take ownership of preparing statutory accounts in line with Charity SORP and UK GAAP
  • Oversee payroll, grant-funding applications, and theatre tax-relief processes
  • Ensure robust financial controls are implemented and maintained across the organisation
  • Collaborate with cultural leaders to bring financial expertise into creative decision-making
  • Mentor and manage a small finance team, fostering ownership and development

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for an experienced finance leader with a passion for the arts and an ability to operate in a creative, dynamic environment.

Mandatory

  • Proven leadership experience in senior finance roles
  • Expertise in UK GAAP and Charity SORP reporting standards
  • Strong skills in budgeting, forecasting, financial controls, and variance analysis
  • Experience managing payroll, grant-funding applications, and financial operations
  • Ability to translate financial insights into actionable strategies for creative teams
  • Availability for 2–3 days per week onsite in Pitlochry during the initial 3–6 months

Preferred

  • Experience in the theatre, arts, or not-for-profit sectors
  • Background in handling theatre tax relief processes and governance transformations
  • Proven ability to build relationships with creative and non-financial stakeholders
  • Comfort working in a high-change, entrepreneurial environment
  • Recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or relevant experience

ON OFFER

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of an organisation's financial strategy as it transforms the arts landscape in Scotland.

  • Salary up to £65,000 per annum DOE
  • Hybrid working model with flexible arrangements after onboarding
  • Contribution to meaningful cultural and artistic initiatives
  • Opportunities to influence strategic decision-making at the highest levels
  • Scope to develop and enhance financial processes for the future

If this sounds like the next step in your career journey, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and bring your financial expertise to one of Scotland’s most dynamic cultural organisations!
