We require an individual to join our multidisciplinary team working with adults with Learning Disabilities and complex needs in Tayside, based at Murray Royal Hospital Perth, in the Learning Disability Inpatient Service. Applications are invited from individuals with previous experience working with people with disabilities in paid or voluntary employment or community work, preferably within health/social care environment, and who hold relevant SVQ III and/or Gym Instructor Level 2 qualifications or equivalent experience.

Any Relevant training in group work, health recovery, gym instructor training would be helpful along with an ability to teach physical activity in a practical way.

Candidates should have the ability to work independently with individuals and groups within the ward/ centre and within a community setting.

Candidates should have good communication skills and have experience of engaging people within therapeutic activities with good team working skills. The successful applicant will work within this established and valued Occupational Therapy Service for people with a Learning Disability with complex needs and challenging behaviour. To provide a flexible patient centred programme of physical therapeutic activities for individuals/groups of patients within the Occupational Therapy process.

The post holder will be expected to use a wide range of therapeutic exercise media and interventions within Occupational Therapy sessions leisure/recreational activities within the Hospital and the community. The post holder will also be expected to supervise/escort patients within their care management plan they will also be expected to travel with patients to their activities in the community whether as a driver of a crown car or minibus or as the passenger supervising a patient or patients.

You will be provided with a package that will include Healthcare Support Workers Mandatory Induction Standards and supervision from an experienced Occupational Therapist with further training and development.

You will be required to comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland throughout your employment.
