About the Data Services Team
  • Platform management and user support:
    Managing the Council’s GIS platform (ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro) and MS Power BI with training and advisory services.
  • Corporate Address Gazetteer (CAG):
    Maintaining and developing high‑quality address data underpinning council services and statutory reporting.
  • Data engineering:
    Building data pipelines using Safe Software FME to flow data into the council’s corporate data platform.
  • Data custodianship:
    Data quality management, improvement and distribution of datasets to internal and external users.
  • Data and GIS analytics services:
    Creating and managing web maps, apps and dashboards for council and partner needs.
  • Training, support and advisory services for users.
  • Awareness raising:
    Producing high‑quality publications illustrating the value of data and analytics.
Role Responsibilities

As a Project Assistant you will provide general assistance across GIS and spatial data services such as working on the Corporate Address Gazetteer, developing GIS applications, and supporting data engineering workflows. Opportunities exist to work with the Power BI platform, delivering an end‑to‑end professional analytics service.

Skills & Experience Required

• HNC level in an appropriate discipline or equivalent operational experience.

• Creative, positive attitude with awareness of data and analytics technologies and methods.

• Fluent written and oral communication, good organisational and facilitation skills.

• Understanding of GIS and analytics technologies (ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial analysis, data visualisation, data governance, data modelling, and project management principles.
