The Role

The Project Manager is the point of delivery for operationally critical projects, likely to include a portfolio of related projects, potentially of strategic importance to SSE with direct business impact with firm deadlines. A vital part of the role is delivering the requirements as per the customer expectations.

You will
  • Deliver one or more projects from initiation through to close‑out, meeting agreed scope, quality, time and cost objectives as defined in the Project Brief / PID, and ensuring outcomes realise the intended business benefits.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, customers, suppliers and internal teams, proactively managing expectations, interfaces and dependencies using appropriate project management frameworks.
  • Operate within established project and portfolio governance arrangements, including stage gates, reporting, assurance, and change control; providing accurate and timely performance updates to sponsors and governance forums.
  • Manage third‑party suppliers and contracts, acting as a primary interface, monitoring delivery and performance, addressing underperformance, and escalating issues or risks where necessary.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate project risks, issues and cross‑project dependencies, ensuring impacts on operations, IT services and business change are understood, controlled and transitioned safely into business‑as‑usual.
You have
  • Demonstrable experience delivering complex projects successfully across the full lifecycle, in a regulated environment, from business case and mobilisation through to implementation and benefits realisation, managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience applying and tailoring recognised project management frameworks (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, Agile/Scrum), including stage control, risk and issue management, change control, and lessons learned.
  • A strong track record of leading multi‑disciplinary teams and working with senior stakeholders, with the ability to prioritise, negotiate delivery constraints, and maintain momentum in complex or ambiguous environments.
  • Experience delivering IT‑enabled change, with an understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, service acceptance, and operational change control, alongside embedding business and people change to realise benefits.
  • Experience managing project budgets and suppliers, with a clear understanding of Capex vs Opex, contract performance, and the financial and commercial drivers that underpin successful project delivery.
